Hector Ruiz, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, has declared during a conference, whose subject was the financial results recorded in the first trimester by AMD, that April 21 is still the launching date for Opteron Dual Core.

According to Xbitlabs, Ruiz said that the manufacture process for these processors ahead of schedule, the proof being that AMD has started to distribute samples to its partners starting form January, this year.

As a response to the high number of requests came from consumers, the company has confirmed the launching of this dual-core processor, and AMD Opteron dual-core will be the first processor for dual-core x86 servers.

Another company official has announced the massive retailing of processors starting with the day of the official launching.

The processor will benefit from a DDR dual-channel memory controller, 2 MB of cache Level 2 (one megabyte for each core) and will be compatible with 940 sockets, if they are manufactured according to the specifications, thermal and voltage requirements imposed by AMD and if the BIOS of the motherboards supports dual-core type processors.

It is estimated that the AMD Opteron dual core 200- and 800- series will include processors operating at 1.80GHz, 2.0GHz and 2.20GHz, whose power consumption is 95 W; the second half of 2005 is the probable period for these processors to be launched.

On the other side of the barricade, Intel is said to have started the retailing of the 3.2 GHz 840 Pentium D-class Extreme Edition model, which is designed for the gamers' high-end systems.
