Apple is sparing no efforts to combine the power of innovative technology with a significant green boost offered by renewables. Recent change of plans regarding its new Silicon Valley headquarters involve a large solar panel roof.

The green system is expected to rely on 5 MW solar array, proving enough energy for the entire giant campus, Clean Technica informs.

If everything goes as planned, Apple would proudly display the third largest solar panel roof in the US, being topped only by New Jersey-based Toys’r'Us, that managed to install a 5.38 MW system and Avidan Energy Systems, a company that has invested in a 4.26 MW system.

New Jersey seems to be the perfect location to install PV panels, since Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SREC) allow companies to make more than a decent profit by exploiting solar power for two decades.

This state definitely supports the development of renewables, since utility companies have to provide an amount of alternative energy to the grid on an annual basis.

Apple's intention of satisfying its energy demand using alternative power coming from the sun is not limited to this project.

Apparently, the green company also plans to change its data center built in Maiden, North Carolina, making it abandon coal in favor of eco-friendly solar power.

174 acres are available to be used so that Apple could provide enough power for its east-cost data center worth $1 billion (€767.16 million).

While focusing on the Silicon Valley project, Apple plans to turn the headquarters into a highly efficient “solar powerhouse.” To do so, the major company is counting on the help of RUP North America and Kier & Wright engineering firm.

The innovative headquarters relying on clean green power coming from the sun are expected to revolutionize Silicon Valley's position, and launch a new symbol for the American architecture.

Moreover, the anticipated third largest solar rooftop America has ever seen is aiming to clean up Apple's name, since it has been named the least eco-conscious important company operating in this sector, earlier this year.
