The iPads seem to have grabbed most of the Japanese tablet market

It’s no secret the iPad is one of the most beloved tablets to have ever been released, but by the looks of it, its popularity levels surpass all expectations in Japan.

It has recently been reported that 76% of all smartphones present in Japan are actually iPhones, and now I'm bringing you a similar story that has the iPad at its center, instead.

Japanese site BCN says that the iPad has managed to grab six slots of Japan’s top 10 tablets list. Naturally, the iPad Air is to be found on top of the food chain, taking four slots while the iPad mini has grabbed the remaining two.

Apart from the iPads, some Japanese customers seem to have taken a preference for Google’s Nexus 7 2013 tablets. To create the top, BCN has gathered data from 2,400 separate stores in Japan (not including the App Store). But these numbers only account for 16% of the sales channels, so there’s an incomplete picture here.

If all available data ever gets compiled at some point, I expect to spot more Android tablets, and even a Windows 8 one, in the top.
