Along with its move into the cloud, Adobe also made an assault on the tablet front. It debuted the Touch Apps suite, a set of creative applications that are designed to supplement and even replace in some cases, traditional creative and presentation software.

The applications will be available on both Android tablets and the iPad, indicating that Adobe is not ready to put all of its eggs in one basket.

Google's support for Flash on Android may also have played a role in the decision to support both platforms and to roll out the Android apps first.

"Adobe Touch Apps deliver high-impact creative expression to anyone who has a tablet," Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer at Adobe, said.

"With Adobe imaging magic coming to tablet devices, new apps like Photoshop Touch will open your mind about the potential of the touch interface for creativity and demonstrate that tablets are an essential part of anyone’s creative arsenal," he added.

Adobe Photoshop Touch

The star of the show is undoubtedly Adobe Photoshop Touch.

Arguably, Adobe's best-known piece of software, the tablet version aims to bring as much functionality as possible to the small and rather underpowered devices.

The tool is not aimed at regular users, but it's not the full-blown Photoshop either.

Instead, it comes with most tools users will be familiar with, layers, selection tools, adjustments and filters, most of Photoshop's editing tools.

On top of that, users get the ability to share their creations with friends on Facebook, but can also import images from the web, via Facebook and Google Image Search, or from the tablet's camera.

Adobe Collage

As the name implies, this tool enables users to mix and match images, drawings text to create a virtual moodboard. It enables designers to quickly create a mockup and the portability of a tablet makes it easy to present the ideas to others.

Adobe Debut

This tool enable users to load Creative Suite files, such as those created with Photoshop or Illustrator, and present them on a tablet. There is also the possibility of making annotations, to incorporate feedback.

Adobe Ideas

Whereas the last two tools were aimed at presentations, Ideas is a creative tool in the truest sense, it enables users to draw vector graphics with their fingers (soon with a stylus too).

Adobe Kuler

This app has a simple purpose, to generate color themes that can then be used in any number of projects. It can create a color theme from an existing image, but also has access to the hundreds of thousands of themes that the community has created using the full-blown Kuler service.

Adobe Proto

Finally, Adobe Proto is a tool aimed at web developers but also at mobile app creators who need to quickly create a working wireframe or prototype. The wireframe can then be exported as a collection of HTML, CSS and JavaScript files.

Each app in the suite costs $9.99, €7.5 for now. The apps will be available for Android tablets next month and for the iPad in early 2012. They will also be an integral part of the just announced Adobe Creative Cloud.
