Accessory maker LaCie is expanding the storage capacity of all iDevices with the release of a wireless external hard drive designed to talk directly to iOS devices and transfer every type of media back and forth.

Providing a much needed window to all your files (something iOS had been lacking since day one), the LaCie Fuel drive is not as much about storage as it is about its wireless capabilities.

It can be paired with any iDevice that has the official Seagate Media app installed, giving you easy access to all the photos, videos, music, and documents stored on the Fuel drive.

You can let all your friends send their photos to it on a trip (like the embedded promotional video shows), and you even get Dropbox integration to sync files between a computer and the LaCie Fuel automatically.

The Fuel has a 10-hour battery life (just like all iPads) and creates its own Wi-Fi network so other devices can connect directly to it, eliminating the need for an Internet connection.

“With AirPlay compatibility, the LaCie Fuel lets users mirror content playing on a mobile device to a TV with a single tap,” says LaCie. “This allows users to view everything from vacation photos to home videos stored on the LaCie Fuel on the largest screen in the house.”

Marking the first product collaboration between Seagate and LaCie, the Fuel drive sells for $199.99 (€146.47) and is currently being demoed at the CES 2014 trade show.

“The mobile industry is ubiquitous. Consumers rely on their mobile devices more than any other personal technology,” said Philippe Spruch, executive vice president, Seagate branded, CEO and chairman of the board, LaCie.

“The LaCie Fuel enriches mobile entertainment by providing consumers with ample storage and untethered accessibility. By name, form, and function, the LaCie Fuel lets users sustain their digital life,” added Spruch.
