It seems that the Apple TV is suffering from a data-wiping bug as well, with Apple issuing the 3.0.1 Software Update for set-top-box owners who recently updated to version 3.0 of the Apple TV software. The company behind the Mac operating system acknowledged the issue soon after rolling out its newest Apple TV update, and addressed it immediately by issuing another.

It has been known for a while that Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) operating system has been plagued by a data-erasing glitch which the company aims to address in the Mac OS X 10.6.2 incremental update expected to drop this month. In an email to its customers, the Cupertino-based electronics maker now informs that Apple TVs running software version 3.0 are suffering from a similar bug. To fix it, Apple recommends installing Apple TV Software Update 3.0.1. Those who didn’t get the chance to update to version 3.0 (but wanted to) can install version 3.0.1 instead, as it supersedes all previous releases of the Apple TV software. Reproduced in italics below is Apple’s very email sent out to Apple TV owners worldwide.

Dear Customer,

If you’ve installed the Apple TV 3.0 software update, you should immediately update to version 3.0.1. This prevents content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced.

To update your Apple TV software:

1. Reboot your Apple TV (unplug the power cord and plug it back in) 2. Select Settings > General from the main menu 3. Select

Update Software

4. Select Download and Install

Note: Your Apple TV will conduct a restart, which is followed by the Apple logo and a status bar. [...] If you need further assistance with your Apple TV, contact AppleCare.

Sincerely,

Apple TV TEam

In the email, owners of an Apple set-top-box are also advised to visit Apple’s Support section here to gain further knowledge of the current situation surrounding the Apple TV software, as well as get an in-depth look at the content-disappearing issue.
