A group of code savvy individuals have been working secretly to develop a jailbreak for the third-generation Apple TV hardware in order to enable customers to install third-party applications, as well as to run multiple types of media formats.

Firecore, the company that develops the Seas0nPass Apple TV jailbreak, is telling 9to5mac that ATV3 owners have every reason to get excited, because sharp minds are working on a jailbreak.

James Abeler of Firecore specifically told the site that “There is a group of very bright and talented individuals working on a lead that could result in a usable jailbreak for the 3rd gen Apple TV.”

“While there is no telling how long this process could take, we remain optimistic that a jailbreak for this device will be available in the future,” he noted, adding that “no one at FireCore is involved in the jailbreak discovery process.”

However, that doesn’t mean Firecore aren’t cooking something up themselves.

For their part, the Seas0nPass developers are working around the clock to update their entire set of tools for the Apple TV community, including aTV Flash, MiRow and, of course, the jailbreak tool itself.

Arguably the most popular offering of Firecore’s, aTV Flash is a software package that “supercharges” your set-top box, enabling it to play back tons of video formats otherwise not supported by iOS, a web browser, the ability to create video playlists, Last.fm radio, and more.

“Don’t worry about the technical details – aTV Flash is simple to use and safe for your Apple TV. Installation is a snap and doesn’t require any physical changes to the Apple TV,” says Firecore.

FireCore said it would release its updates when the ATV3 jailbreak became available.
