Yet camera-equipped iPods are said to be delayed

In what looks like somewhat of an early move, Apple has taken down its online store to update it with whatever it plans on introducing at today’s event hosted at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

With the price cuts posted earlier today for three of the company’s iPods (nano, classic and touch), the entire industry is expecting Apple to introduce not one, but several new iPod models, all equipped with extra hardware and, implicitly, capable of doing new things. However, as much as some would like to support rumors that new iPods are launching today, trusty sources have confirmed to both AppleInsider and HardMac that the new line of iPods could be delayed due to technical issues.

Citing a person with a strong track record in predicting Apple's product launches, the former site reveals that Apple “has experienced technical problems (bad parts) with the cameras modules.” According to the person talking to AppleInsider, it is uncertain whether the new iPods “would make the cut for early September retail distribution.”

Softpedia note

It is fair to assume that Apple won’t scrap announcing new iPods during today’s keynote (should these assertions be accurate), going by analysts’ claims that, besides new iPods, Apple isn’t announcing / launching much else. Although it surely won’t like it, Apple can save face by just confirming the new hardware now, and launch it whenever it’s ready. However, by taking its store down (and so early, may we add), it is also fair to believe Apple is introducing more than just cheaper units of existing iPod models. After all, the company didn’t need to take its store down earlier today in order to list new entry prices for three of its iPods.
