MacBook is doing very well it seems...

Everyone knows Apple has been doing great with its portable computers lately; however, it looks like they are doing much better than anyone believes.

In a recent DigiTimes article, Rodney Chan reports that Apple is looking for a third contract manufacturer in Taiwan for its MacBooks. According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News Foxconn Electronics has a good chance of becoming that manufacturer.

While initial reactions to this have been that Apple is less than pleased with the machines that have come out of Asustek Computer and Quanta Computer who currently make Apple's MacBook and MacBook Pro, respectively, that seems not to be the case. Apple wants a third partner, which means one in addition to the existing two. It would look like the company is receiving so many orders for the MacBooks that it needs to expand its production.

While currently, there is no shortage of MacBooks, looking at the sales numbers and thinking ahead to the back to school season and then the Christmas season, it could very well be that Apple might see shortages if the portable retains its popularity.

Others have speculated that Apple might want to expand its offering with a smaller sized MacBook Pro and a larger MacBook, but this seems unlikely, as Apple's strategy as of late has been to keep the product lines separate with little or no overlaps.
