In light of yesterday's updates, Apple has issued an update to its solution for managing the Macs on a network, distributing software, providing real-time online help, and more. Version 3.2.2 improves reliability with the Copy Items command, and fixes issues surrounding the Force Quit All Applications and Copy Items to Computer Automator actions, among others.

Apple's Support page reveals that, after installing Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 Client, “[it] will continue to support computers running version 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.2.1 of the client software.” Apple notes, however, that if users choose not to upgrade their computers running version 2.0 or 2.1 of the client software, they will only be able to “control/observe them.”

According to the Cupertino-based Mac maker, Apple Remote Desktop update 3.2.2 brings:

- Improved reliability with the Copy Items command. - Upgrade Client Software command now uses unicast packets for improved reliability on some networks. - Fixes to the Force Quit All Applications and Copy Items to Computer Automator actions.

Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 Client updates the software that enables Remote Management (enabled in Sharing preferences, in System Preferences).

Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 Admin updates the Remote Desktop application, which can be used to remotely administer Apple Remote Desktop clients. For the admin version of Apple's Remote Desktop, update 3.2.2 allows users to add Apple Remote Desktop clients using versions 2.0 and later to their computer lists, and will automatically assist them in upgrading the Macs to the currently-available version Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 – client.

Both updates are available as standalone installer packages here (client) and here (admin). Users simply download the .dmg file suitable for them, double click it to unpack, and double click the installer to begin the installation process. Alternately, the update can be made using Apple's Software Update mechanism, found in the Apple Menu. The updates work on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. After updating Remote Desktop to version 3.2.2, you may use it to automatically update clients on the local network.
