Apple posted a new version of its Safari web browser yesterday, bringing the software to version 4.0.5 on both Mac and Windows platforms. The release brings performance improvements, according to the official release notes found over at the Apple Downloads section, as well as security fixes, detailed elsewhere on the company’s website.

According to the company headquartered at One Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, “[Safari 4.0.5] is recommended for all Safari users and includes improvements to performance, stability, and security including: - Performance improvements for Top Sites; - Stability improvements for 3rd-party plug-ins; - Stability improvements for websites with online forms and Scalable Vector Graphics; - Fixes an issue that prevented Safari from changing settings on some Linksys routers.”

The Mac maker adds that Safari 4.0.5 includes some security fixes, all of which are listed on its Support section. A detailed report focusing on the security content of Safari 4.0.5 will be posted on Softpedia later on today.

Safari 4.0.5, posted on March 11, 2010 weighs in at 30.52MB for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 38.59 MB for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and 26.78 MB for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). For Windows users (including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7), the program is 30.18 MB in size. System Requirements for this update are listed as follows:

- Mac OS X 10.6.1 or 10.6.2; - Mac OS X 10.5.8; - Mac OS X 10.4.11; - Vista, XP and Windows 7.

Safari 4.0.5 supports several languages, including Dutch, English and Français.
