Shortly after Apple released iTunes 10.3 with support for iCloud and other nifty stuff, a number of Apple Discussions users began reporting synchronization issues with the new software and their iDevices.

So perhaps this is the most likely reason for the mysterious iTunes 10.3.1 that’s recently popped up lacking any new changelog.

The new iTunes lists the exact same changes iTunes 10.3 listed when Apple released it just as the WWDC 2011 keynote was coming to an end.

However, there is clear evidence of something going wrong with iTunes 10.3 from the activity over at Apple Support Communities where thread starter xdude29 wrote: “Cannot sync iPhone 4 and iPad - I am getting an unknown error (-50).”

“I had the same problem with my iPhone 4,” another wrote. “My iPad 2 syncs fine however,” he added.

“Prior to installing iTunes 10.3, I had turned the Cloud sync for music, apps and books on. Tried turning it off, also turned ‘Sync Music’ off in iTunes, I was able to sync afterwards,” Mikey F explained.

“I am having same issue,” wrote a user identified as zzmd. “After adding itunes 10.3 iphone 4 will not complete sync timed out error code 50.”

And while some appeared to resolve the issue by turning off the Cloud sync for music, apps and books, a bug was still clearly present in iTunes, as this behavior should not be exhibited with those features turned on.

The thread is yet to be updated with positive posts, suggesting that iTunes 10.3.1 may have not fixed the issue, if it was even intended for that.

Has anyone here had similar trouble with syncing their iDevice after installing iTunes 10.3? If so, does iTunes 10.3.1 fix these issues? Let us know in the comments.
