Added to the slew of updates issued by Apple on the heels of the “Let's Rock” event yesterday are new versions of the MobileMe Control Panel and Bonjour for Windows users. Since many users of Apple's services still use PCs to get around, the company must sometimes release Windows-specific updates to the users. Both updates are available as free downloads right here on our website.

From Apple's Support page,

About MobileMe Control Panel 1.1 (for Windows)

With MobileMe, your contacts, calendar, and bookmarks are automatically kept in sync between your PC, iPhone, iPod touch, and a suite of web apps at www.me.com.

The MobileMe Control Panel is required to set up sync on your Windows PC. It also enables you to manage your MobileMe iDisk for online file storage and sharing.

So, basically, as a MobileMe subscriber, not only do you need the MobileMe Control Panel to be able to sync your e-mails, contacts and all that, but the 1.1 update is also required, so you can continue to manage your MobileMe iDisk.

Next up, Bonjour 1.0.5. Also known as zero-configuration networking, Bonjour enables automatic discovery of devices and services on IP networks. Using industry standard IP protocols, Bonjour users can set up devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers.

Users running 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista can download a compatible version of Bonjour for Windows 1.0.5 here. More information on Bonjour for Windows 1.0.5 can be found here.

On its Support section, Apple points out to a known issue where a small number of Virtual Private Network (VPN) clients interfere with Bonjour. “If you find that you can no longer discover network services or print to Bonjour shared printers, try logging out of VPN,” Apple advises.
