Those enrolled with Apple’s $99-a-year developer program are being informed about a change in the Sales and Trends module which now allows devs to have iTunes Connect reports automatically downloaded onto their Mac or Windows PC for safe keeping.

An update on the News and Announcements section for Apple Developers addresses the code-savvy types with the following message: “You can now access a new tool that gives you the ability to automate the download of your iTunes Connect Sales and Trends reports.”

“This new Auto-Ingest tool gives you the ability to download the Daily Sales Summary Report, the Weekly Sales Summary Report, and the Weekly Opt-in Report without logging in to iTunes Connect,” Apple adds.

According to the Sales and Trends reporting literature put out by Apple in PDF format, the Java based tool allows you to “automate the download of your iTunes Connect Sales and Trends reports.”

Developers, however, need to configure the tool before they start using it.

The tool allows devs to automate the retrieval of daily summary reports, weekly summary reports, and opt-in reports.

The company formerly run by Steve Jobs notes that, “As new reports become available we will modify and redeliver the java package or new parameters to use to download new products (i.e. we will modify the script for new features).”

“We will communicate both the anticipated date of the report release and the date that the tool will be able to retrieve reports,” the Mac maker adds.

“You may not alter or disseminate the auto-ingest tool for any reason. We reserve the right to revoke access for usage or distribution beyond its intended use,” Apple warns.

Devs will need to have Java installed on the computer destined to run the auto-ingest tool. Java version 1.6 or above is required.
