I’ve been keeping a close eye on Apple’s Special Deals section over the past few days, and I've been eager to report that MacBook Air prices dropped to a record low of $799. But that’s not all I noticed.

It appears that Apple is poised to get rid of a lot of Mac minis (perhaps signaling a refresh or discontinuation in the near future), including models that are only a few months old - from July 2011.

For the not-exactly-round sum of $519, you get to save $80 on the purchase of a Refurbished Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 originally released July 2011 with: 2GB memory; 500GB hard drive; Thunderbolt port with support for up to 2560-by-1600 resolution; HDMI port with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution; and Intel HD Graphics 3000.

For $699 (with $100 savings) a more powerful version can be acquired. Its specs are:2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 CPU; 4GB memory; 500GB hard drive; Thunderbolt connectivity; HDMI port; AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics.

A 2010 models with an even higher clocked CPU, dual 500GB hard drives and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics goes for $749, which Apple calculates as a $250 saving (or 25% off the original retail price).

Finally, I’d like to point your attention to the oldest Mac in the list of still-available purchases, the White MacBook - $849 (save $150 / 15% off). Cupertino advertises the following specs for the discontinued laptop whose last revision was in May 2010:

Refurbished MacBook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

- Originally released May 2010 - 13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display - 2GB (2 x 1GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm - 8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) - NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
