Addresses issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks... when it's ready

Yesterday, Apple released AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003, a firmware upgrade for its wireless networking solution built into newer Macs. Some users immediately updated, but had little success in fixing their wireless issues. Apple must have been watching their reactions closely, since it pulled the update soon after user complaints began to emerge on the Internet.

For as long as the respective Support / Downloads page was up, the update notice said that AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 “is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS 10.5.5 and resolves some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks.”

One of the readers reporting a lack of success in resolving issues through this update wrote a post over at MacFixIt, explaining how "lots of people, including myself, have had very intermittent wireless connections since upgrading to 'AirPort Extreme update 2008-002' back in June. Apple finally acknowledges this by patching it with 'AirPort extreme update 2008-003' which came out today 10/21. Well guess what... I'm still having the same problem after the update. It may be a little bit better, but only a little. I've already trouble shot this with Applecare last week, and we confirmed it was not hardware related, but a software issue. This update was suppose to fix it, and in my case...it has not.”

Since Apple always advises users to make sure that they have the latest software updates installed on their Mac, more Mac owners are likely to have installed the update with little fixing success. Apple's downloads page is now expected to include a new 2008-003 update for AirPort users soon. However, the download link for AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 still exists. You can use the link below to update your AirPort Extreme firmware. We'll post a new article the instant Apple makes the necessary adjustments.
