Members of Apple’s Developer Connection were greeted with an Xcode 3.2.1 Developer Tools Download this week, an update that delivers bug fixes in gdb, Interface Builder, Instruments, llvm-gcc and Clang optimizer, and Shark. Xcode is a suite of development tools for Mac OS X, created by Apple.

The latest major version, Xcode 3.2, is bundled for free with Mac OS X v10.6, but it is not installed by default. Several dated versions of Xcode are available for free download from the Apple Developer Connection site, with version 3.2 not being supported on older Mac OS versions.

“Xcode 3.2.1 is an update release of the developer tools for Mac OS X,” Apple says over at its Developer Connection site. “This release provides bug fixes in gdb, Interface Builder, Instruments, llvm-gcc and Clang optimizer, Shark, and Xcode and must be installed on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and higher. Xcode defaults to upgrading an existing Xcode installation but may optionally be installed alongside existing Xcode installations. See accompanying release notes for detailed installation instructions, known issues, security advisories,” the message goes. A full list of changes occurring since the release of Xcode 3.2 can be found here.

No links or additional information of any sort are provided, as pre-release software is confidential information in Apple’s view. The unauthorized distribution or disclosure of information related to pre-release Apple software (including the posting of screenshots) may subject one to both civil and criminal liability and may result in immediate termination of one’s ADC Membership.

Also, one must be an Apple Developer Connection member to download Xcode Tools 3.2.1. Online membership is free and, if users have another account at Apple, they can download the development tools by entering their existing username (Apple ID) and password in the ADC Member log-in area. Those who don’t have an ADC online membership can sign up for one right now.
