Despite being constantly pestered by Greenpeace for no reason whatsoever, Apple continues to be one of the greenest companies in the computer industry. Now, the Cupertino Company has expanded its recycling program to allow schools to dispose of their old hardware, without the need for a purchase.

Apple's recycling Program offers any customer free recycling of their old computer or monitor, regardless of manufacturer, when any qualifying Apple computer or monitor is bought. Now, the company has extended this program to allow unlimited recycling for schools. The limited duration offer is available until the 30th of June, and Apple will dispose of any old computer, along with any associated peripherals at no cost. No purchase in necessary and all accredited K-12 and Higher Education institutions with at least 25 systems to recycle are eligible for participation in the program. While there is a minimum number of machines, there is no upper limit to the number of systems that can be thus recycled.

When you dispose of your end-of-life assets through Apple's Recycle Program for Education, you have peace of mind knowing that 100% of the recycling is done domestically within the United States. You can also rest easy knowing that all asset tags or other identifying marks are completely removed and that all hard drives are ground into confetti-sized pieces to ensure your data is secure.

After being repeatedly criticized by Greenpeace reports which take into account companies announcements and promises instead of actual efforts at removing hazardous materials, Apple's Steve Jobs answered with an open letter detailing the efforts the company has undertaken to remove harmful substances from its products. Now it looks like Apple has dropped discretion when it comes to the environment and is taking a more transparent approach. This latest educational offer is bound to be a significant boon to schools which will be updating their systems for the next year.
