Earlier this week, Apple rolled out a couple of updates for its iOS applications GarageBand and iMovie. Both have received praise from the media, including us, but Apple felt it was necessary to detail some of the things these updates delivered.

We’ve already covered Apple’s iMovie playback optimization guide, but we haven’t yet gotten a chance to look Apple’s Support document HT4622, which offers a deeper look into GarageBand 1.0.1.

The first new feature it talks about is the ability to paste an audio file from the clipboard.

Apple tells music fans that “You can paste an audio file from an app that supports copying audio to the clipboard. GarageBand for iPad supports uncompressed audio files with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz and 16-bit depth (the standard for audio CDs).”

If you copy audio files from another app, you can just as easily paste them to Audio Recorder or Guitar amp tracks, according to the Mac maker's guide.

To paste an audio file users must simply move the playhead to the point where they want the audio file to start, and then tap the track where they want to paste the audio file. These files can also be pasted into empty tracks.

Perhaps the most important addition of all, the ability to import an audio file, is detailed below:

“You can import an audio file from your computer into Tracks view. GarageBand for iPad supports uncompressed audio files with a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 16-bit depth (the standard for audio CDs).”

“You can also import Apple Loops. If the audio file is an unsupported sample rate or bit depth it will be unavailable in the import window,” Apple elaborates.

To import an audio file, users must employ iTunes and use the File Sharing feature with GarageBand selected.

On the iPad app, users can then place the audio file wherever they want by moving the playhead to the desired point in the track.

The last step is to tap Import and select the audio file they want to import from the list, at which point the audio file will appear in Tracks view, starting from the playhead position.

Apple’s Support document also looks at using GarageBand with external output devices. These include  AirPlay, Bluetooth, and HDMI-equipped media devices and they can be used by tapping the Song Settings button in the control bar, and then tapping the "AirPlay - Bluetooth - HDMI" switch On.
