The Downloads section of Apple’s web site is listing the availability of a Micromat-developed diagnostics utility that allows users to test their computer's critical system components, as well as repair disk structure and rebuild its directories.

“TechTool Deluxe from Micromat is a powerful diagnostic utility that allows you to test your computer's critical system components, such as the processor, RAM (random-access memory), VRAM (video random-access memory), the hard disk, and more,” Apple states.

“TechTool Deluxe can also repair your computer's disk structure and rebuild its directories as necessary,” the Mac maker adds, in a recent note on its Support Downloads web site.

The Mac maker further outlines the particularities of Micromat’s diagnostics tool, revealing it is only available with an AppleCare Protection Plan.

As such, “If your Mac is currently covered under the Apple One-Year Limited warranty and you would like to extend your world-class telephone technical support and hardware repair coverage to three years from your computer’s date of purchase and get TechTool Deluxe, purchase an AppleCare Protection Plan today,” the company advises owners of a Macintosh computer.

AppleCare is a service and support plan sold by Apple exclusively to Apple customers.

As part of the customer support service offered by the company, it provides customers with 90 days of free phone support and one year of hardware warranty coverage.

Both can be extended to two years for iPods and iPhones, or three years for Macs through the AppleCare Protection Plan.

The AppleCare Protection Plan is purchased separately, or with new Apple products.

Those who’ve already bought the AppleCare Protection Plan for their Macintosh can immediately enter their unique AppleCare serial number and download the latest version of TechTool Deluxe for free.

The serial number is needed so that Apple can validate a customer’s coverage.

Apple makes one final note saying that users must also agree to its own terms, before employing Micromat’s powerful utility.

“By downloading and using the software, you agree to the terms of the Mac OS X Software License Agreement, which is available here,” the Cupertino-based Mac vendor states.
