iLife 11, the latest version of Apple’s suite of software applications designed for organizing, editing, and publishing photos, movies, and music, is immediately available for purchase for the “suggested retail price” of $49. Those who’ve recently bought a new Mac that does not include iLife ’11 qualify for an upgrade to iLife ’11 for $6.99, Apple confirmed.

During yesterday’s Back to the Mac event, Apple introduced iLife ’11, a major upgrade that focuses on just three of the five applications comprising the suite.

iPhoto has a whole new look, with full screen modes for Faces, Places and Events; iMovie boasts great new editing features and the ability to quickly transform videos into theatrical trailers; and GarageBand 11 introduces new ways to improve your playing with Flex Time and Groove Matching.

“Free with every new Mac, iLife ’11 is available as a $49 upgrade for existing users,” Apple’s official announcement reads.

In other words, even if you own a 21.5-imac with iLife 9 installed, for example, you also pay the premium price of $49 to “upgrade” to the new version of the suite.

However, those who’ve just recently bought a new Mac are not left out in the cold, Apple said.

However, there are a few things to know about Apple’s iLife 11 Hardware Up-to-Date Program

There are the qualifying purchases between October 1 and October 19, 2010, and there are the qualifying purchases on or after October 20, 2010.

Here’s how it works, according to Apple.

“Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store between October 1 and October 19, 2010 that does not include iLife ’11 can upgrade to iLife ’11 for US $6.99 plus tax.”

Customers must remember that their completed order form must be postmarked or faxed by November 19, 2010, the rules state.

“Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store on or after October 20, 2010 that does not include iLife ’11 can upgrade to iLife ’11 for US $6.99 plus tax,” Apple says.

These customers, however, need to make sure their completed order form is postmarked or faxed within 30 days of the date of their purchase of a qualifying computer.

Now you’re probably wondering what Macs qualify for the program. Rest assured, Apple has got you covered.
