“When you combine all the possible options, the opportunities for personalization are virtually endless” – iWatch ad

Apple Watch won’t be here until 2015, but it’s a topic worth discussing. Especially when the Internet has gone berserk about bending iPhones and glitchy iOS firmware updates. We’d like to change the subject for a few minutes. Who’s with us?

Okay, among the announcements Apple made on September 9, there was one in particular that the media had been singing about for years: the company’s foray into wearables – the Apple Watch.

No one’s talking about it

Personally, I’m baffled that no one is seeing the amazing potential behind this device. It’s 2010 all over again (the original iPad launch) from where I’m standing. The press prefers to fret about bending iPhones rather than the copious amounts of technology that went into the admittedly expensive Apple Watch.

Take the Digital Crown, for instance. You know, that twisty dial on the side that typically spins around the clock hands. Well, now it does a million more things because Apple didn’t want you covering the screen with your fingers 99% of the time.

Not wanting to spend too much time dishing out specs, I invite you to just watch the Apple Watch video. Ignore Jony Ive’s candor if you’re allergic to his epithets (as some seem to be) and just focus on ingesting the hard facts. The thing is a technological wonder.

Endless customization

Aside from the smart sensors and the densely packed OS, one of the best things about the Apple Watch is the level of customization it offers to the user. Look at the Gear watches and their GameBoy displays, and then look at the Apple Watch again. Not wanting to sound like a fanboy here, but the difference is obvious.

According to its creators, “Each Apple Watch comes with a range of watch faces you can change whenever you like. You can also add specialized functions — known in watchmaking as complications — to most faces.”

“Choose stopwatches, stock quotes, weather updates, and more. When you combine all the possible options, the opportunities for personalization are virtually endless,” the company explains.

To go with that statement, the Mac maker shows a number of potential “complications” in the form of a collage (pictured above). There's also a list here, complete with the bill of materials for each model. I invite your to choose your favorite and tell us which one you picked and why. The comments section awaits below.

There’s one for everyone, literally

Apple said that, and it’s true. Unlike most smartwatches out there – which go with a female’s wrist like Barbie with a fighter jet – the Apple watch can actually be worn by both men and women. In fact, it’s actually targeted at women. Especially with those intimate communication features. I don’t see too many companies doing that with technology these days, do you?
