As you know, Apple's iTunes is one of the most appreciated applications on the Internet because it is often more than a simple multimedia player that helps you organize your music collection. iTunes also provides instant access to Apple's online multimedia store that is currently selling the best movie and music titles in the world, allowing you to download them and transfer the content on the Apple iPod. Today, it was reported that a new complaint concerning the iTunes Store was filed in Los Angeles by the Liberty Media Holding Corp.

Starz Entertainment cable network sued Walt Disney because they offered their video content to other online shops, including iTunes, to sell it directly to the Internet users. The company accuses Walt Disney of infringing their exclusive rights over the products because Starz Entertainment obtained an exclusive license for numerous titles. It seems like one of the movies distributed via other download platforms was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, one of the blockbusters that recorded huge profits just after the release date. According to Reuters, Starz paid more than $1 billion for the exclusive rights, the company also obtaining the right to distribute the media through its download service Vongo.

As MacNN sustains, the lawsuit can make Apple lose important money and clients because the Walt Disney agreement helped the company launch the iTunes movie downloads campaign introduced in September. "The suit could be especially damaging for Apple, whose close connection to Disney helped launch the initial catalog of iTunes movie downloads in September of last year with a swath of exclusives such as the Pirate of the Caribbean series. Apple CEO Steve Jobs currently sits on Disney's board of directors and holds the largest individual stake in the movie studio's shares," MacNN reported.
