Advertisements for the second-generation iPad have been shot at New York’s Pier 59 by British photographer David Sims, according to a report by 9to5mac. The Mac maker reportedly used current-generation iPads for the shoot, in order to avoid leaks, while all participants were required to sign non-disclosure agreements.

The source in question reports that, although it sought to obtain more information about the activity at New York’s Pier 59 late last month, it was only able to learn that “Apple was filming ads for its upcoming iPad 2,” using British photographer David Sims as the man in charge with guiding the camera crew.

Sessions were shot using current generation models which, according to the tipsters, “will be swapped out with the new ones in post production,” the report reads.

This leads us to believe that Apple’s forthcoming iPad 2 will feature similar dimensions.

Although there weren’t any new products on the set, one of the participants reportedly said that “everyone had to sign non-disclosure documents and security was tight.”

The report features imagery and a video of David Sims’ previous work for Pepe Jeans, to give readers a clue as to what Apple’s forthcoming iPad 2 ads may look like. There is a distinct old-school feel to the ads which falls well with Apple’s style.

Based on these leaks, it is reasonable to assume that Apple will introduce an updated version of the iPad, rather than a completely revamped model.

The company is known to refrain itself from developing a smaller version, touting 7-inch screens like those found on the Galaxy Tab as impractical.

An updated iPad 2 will most likely feature dual cameras, which would bring the device on feature parity with the rest of the iOS pack, for FaceTime compatibility. The rest of the upcoming improvements are anybody’s guess.
