Yesterday, Apple’s executives were happy to report another profitable quarter for fiscal year 2010, outlining that iPhone sales had more than doubled, with some 8.75 million iPhones sold this past quarter alone. The numbers represent a whopping 131-percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter, but Apple suggests it is just warming up.

In the press release announcing the company’s second-quarter results, Apple’s CEO is quoted as saying, “We’re thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter ever, with revenues up 49 percent and profits up 90 percent. We’ve launched our revolutionary new iPad and users are loving it, and we have several more extraordinary products in the pipeline for this year.”

“Looking ahead to the third fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue in the range of about $13.0 billion to $13.4 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share in the range of about $2.28 to $2.39,” Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO, added.

Apple’s executives have reportedly dropped several references to “extraordinary,” new products during the Q2 conference call. Unfortunately, they gave little clue as to what they might be. According to Cult of Mac, one Wall Street analyst asked Apple’s CFO whether these products were entirely new, or mere upgrades to the existing lineup. Peter Oppenheimer responded by stating, “We’re just not going to help our competitors (by talking),” adding, “We’re very confident in our product pipeline and very excited about coming months.”

Apple is known to be working on a revamped iPhone, which, accidentally or not, made headlines this week as the biggest Apple product leak of all time. Whether or not leaked in its final shipping form factor, the device well qualifies as “extraordinary” with its sleek, new design, front-facing video chat camera, the enhanced back-camera and built-in flash (not Adobe's Flash), an improved higher resolution display, a beefed-up battery and, let’s not forget, iPhone OS 4.0.
