Creative will be even more surprised by this one...

It looks like Creative bit off more than it could chew when it decided to start a legal war with Apple, who has now filed a second lawsuit against the already troubled company.

Not that long ago, Creative started a legal brawl with Apple, by suing it, claiming that Apple was infringing a interface patent, known as the 'Zen patent'. Not only did Apple respond by suing Creative, but now they have also filed a new copyright lawsuit.

Apple is now claiming that Creative is infringing on three patents related to using icons, and displaying and editing digital data. The Cupertino company is asking for cash damages and a court order to stop Creative from any further breaches. Furthermore, Apple wants the International Trade Commission in Washington to block imports of Creative's music players.

With this second lawsuit, the legal costs Creative is facing have gone up significantly, and the company was already in financial difficulty, its shares having dropped 35 percent this year alone.

The way things have unfolded, Apple may very well have even more cards up their sleeve, and with Creative's less than ideal financial situation things don't look very well for them.
