Are developers not showing up?

Not that long ago, Apple announced that it will be delaying Leopard, which was expected to be introduced at this year's World Wide Developer's Conference. While at the time there was a strong reaction, today, the delay is simply accepted as a fact. However, it looks like the WWDC might have lost some of its sparkle.

Apple has recently notified developers via email that WWDC07 (June 11-15, San Francisco) early registration has been extended to May 11. Not only has Apple extended the early registration date, but it is also using the Leopard preview that was promised as incentive for developers.

See the future. Then take it home with you.

Could it be that the Leopard delay has had an impact on WWDC? Is Apple seeing a drop in attendance? It seems unlikely, as the WWDC is about a lot more than just Leopard and developers have been getting their hands on preview builds since last year. At the same time, it cannot be denied that Leopard was the main attraction at this year's WWDC, and without it, it will only be half the show.

Apple might still have some surprises up its sleeves, in order to draw attention away from the lack of a Leopard release, but there is no way of knowing until Steve says "one more thing."
