A certain listing over at Amazon.com has caught the eye of tech journalists worldwide. As you can see for yourselves, the retailer has slashed the initial $79 price charged for the suite to just $44.29, in what is believed to indicate the forthcoming introduction of a new major version of the software.

iLife is a suite of Apple-developed applications pre-loaded on every new Mac. Currently comprised of iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD, and GarageBand, the forthcoming iLife 11 is believed to drop iDVD in favor of a new, mystery application.

As reported by Softpedia on countless occasions, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness the exclusion of iDVD in a future update to iLife, with Apple emphasizing iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand and iWeb as the pillars of the suite.

iPhoto ’09 - Organize photos two new ways: Faces, based on who’s in your photos, and Places, based on where your photos were taken. Then share on Facebook or Flickr with a click.

iMovie ’09 - Make a great movie in the time you have. Choose a dynamic theme to enhance your movie in seconds. Or refine every shot with the Precision Editor.

GarageBand ’09 - Learn to play piano and guitar. Learn songs from the artists who made them famous. Rock like a legend with new guitar amps and stompbox effects.

iWeb ’09 - Design a website to share your photos, movies, and music just by dragging and dropping. Add new dynamic widgets and publish and share with a click. The launch of a new version of iLife has been expected for a while now.

Noteworthy rumors of Apple introducing iLife 11 go as back as June, when multiple tech publications believed Apple was on track to update the suite on August 7, 2010. The last major revision to iLife was version '09, announced at Macworld 2009.
