What?

I though I would never live to see the day when Apple would be advising Mac users to update their Windows operating systems. But the fact of the matter is that it's real and it's right here. I'll bet that Apple instructing Mac users on Windows practices fills the hearts of bellicose Apple fans with pride and joy. Can the Cupertino based company be excused because of the context? Well, partially.

Apple made available for download Boot Camp public beta build 1.2. The latest Boot Camp refresh delivers support for all the 32-bit editions of Windows Vista in addition to Windows XP. But speaking from the perspective of developer of the world's most advanced and still advancing operating system, Apple has a responsibility not only to put down Windows but also towards its customers. And since Apple could take acre of both aspects in a single shot...

"Don't forget to follow best practices for updating and protecting your Windows system (see "Word to the Wise" to the right)," Apple advises Intel-based Mac users that have installed Windows on their computers with Boot Camp.

But what is this? "Word to the Wise" to the right? Apple: "Word to the Wise - Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it'll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes."

"Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC" is music to my ears. Much more so since I remember Apple's justification for Boot Camp dating back to April 2006. "Apple has no desire or plan to sell or support Windows, but many customers have expressed their interest to run Windows on Apple's superior hardware now that we use Intel processors," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Yes, Windows XP and Windows Vista run on Apple's superior hardware (emphasize added) just like running on a PC. Sweet!
