Apple has officially confirmed the launch of its iTunes Store in Brazil and 15 additional Latin American countries today.

A press release from Apple just hit the wires with official word from the Cupertino company that the iTunes Store is now available in Brazil “with an incredible selection of Brazilian and international music from all the major labels and thousands of independent labels.”

Over 20 million songs are available to Brazilian customers starting today including works from local artists like Ivete Sangalo, Marisa Monte and Roberto Carlos.

Also available are international artists including “The Beatles, Rihanna, Coldplay and thousands more”, says Apple.

“With most songs priced at 99 cents and most albums at $9.99, the iTunes Store in Brazil is the best way for iPad, iPhone, iPod, Mac and PC users to legally discover, purchase and download music online,” according to the Mac maker.

There’s also a selection of movies to grab from the iTunes Store “with many in stunning HD” from major studios such as 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

“The iTunes Store in Brazil now joins the revolutionary App Store, which offers more than 500,000 apps to consumers in 123 countries, reaching hundreds of millions of iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users around the world,” Apple says.

The company has recently confirmed that App Store customers have downloaded more than 18 billion apps since 2008.

In addition to Brazil, Apple is bringing the iTunes Store to 15 Latin American countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.

Latin American countries also get iTunes in the Cloud with iTunes Match, which not only keeps your entire music library in the cloud, it also upgrades your music to iTunes Plus. The fee is $24.99 per year.
