Apple is again delaying shipments of 27-inch iMacs in what looks like an endless cycle of issues hitting the company’s flagship all-in-one desktop computer system. It is believed that screen issues plaguing the 27-inch systems still haven’t been fully addressed, this being the main reason behind the delay. Those who ordered themselves a 27-inch iMac have a good three weeks of waiting to do, as shown on Apple’s online store.

On October 20, 2009, Apple unveiled the new iMac with 21.5 and 27-inch screens. The 27-inch iMac features a breathtaking 2560-by-1440 pixel display that offers 60 percent more pixels than the previous 24-inch model. Both 21.5- and 27-inch displays use the IPS technology to deliver consistent color across an ultra-wide, 178-degree viewing angle.

As Cult of Mac reports, back in December 2009, it was revealed that Apple’s newest iMac was suffering from a wide range of issues. From problems seemingly occurring during the manufacturing process, to the improper way of handling shipments, the new iMac seemed jinxed. Mostly 27-inch models seemed to be affected. Apple proceeded with holding off shipments until the issues would be resolved.

"The new iMac has been a huge hit and we are working hard to fulfill orders as quickly as possible," an Apple spokesperson told CNET at the time. "We apologize for any inconvenience or delay this may cause our customers," the spokesperson added, failing to acknowledge any particular issues, or mention specific computer models.

At the time, a thread on the company’s Apple Discussions forum carried 81 pages of comments and complaints from users experiencing issues with the new iMac models. Computerworld soon reported that a new Web site had been set up by Web designer Scott Pronych to track the problems of the faulty computer. The site is still up. It keeps an evidence of all the reported problems ranging from flickering displays to hard drive failures, and offers a way to test your iMac’s screen for issues. Categories include: Dead Pixels / Yellow Screen; Flickering Screen; Stuck iSight Pixels; Scratched CDs or DVDs; Offset Screen Display; and Production Information on your iMac.
