In a routine move of updating the Terms and Conditions for users of its iTunes Store, Apple has indirectly confirmed that a certain Apple TV Software Update 3.0 is pending. Apple last updated the software on its set-top-box back in June, when the company added remote app directional control, Flickr integration, and more.

iTunes Store Terms and Conditions have changed

Summary of Important Changes

The changes we have made to the terms and conditions include the following:

- “The Terms of Sale have been revised to clarify that you can now use iTunes LPs and iTunes Extras on Apple TV with software version 3.0 or higher.”

- “The iTunes Store Terms of Service and Terms of Sale have been revised to clarify how and when the film rentals can be moved between devices.”

Apple TV users can expect the new update as early as this week, given that Apple has made changes to the legal policies surrounding its iTunes store.

As noted above, the Apple TV software was most recently updated in June. Bringing the software to version 2.4, the update enabled users to control their Apple TV with simple finger gestures via the Remote app. This feature, for its part, required version 1.3 of Apple’s Remote application running on an iPhone or iPod touch with iPhone OS 3.0.

Flickr Search was another new addition enabling users to search Flickr photo tags to find recently updated photographs of interest. Apple TV owners can now save searches to quickly find new photos or use as a screen saver for Apple TV. New view options were added as well (view movies by Genre, by Movie, or Unwatched), as were transport and chapter modes. In order to update their Apple TV’s software, users must connect the set-top-box to the Internet.
