A new book about Steve Jobs is coming out in a few days, a joint venture by Brent Schelender, a reporter who interviewed the late Apple boss several times throughout the years, and Rick Tetzeli of Fast Company.

The book is titled “Becoming Steve Jobs” and will be made available for purchase starting March 24. However, prior to the big event, the folks at Cult of Mac discovered that most of its content was accessible through Amazon’s “Look Inside the Book” feature.

Since then, Amazon made the preview pages disappear, although it was a little bit too late, as essential details already slipped into the wild.

Tim Cook tried to help Steve Jobs as he was battling cancer

One of the most interesting tidbits revealed is the fact that current Apple CEO Tim Cook apparently tried to offer Steve Jobs part of his liver. Jobs succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2011.

It seems that Cook discovered that his blood type matched Steve Jobs’, and since his test results showed he was in good health, he reached out to the Apple executive offering him his support. At the time, Steve Jobs was in dire need of a new liver.

Following the leakage, Fast Company managed to counter the drain and published a follow-up quote, revealing what Steve Jobs had to say about the offer. Here it is:

“Somebody that's selfish, Cook continues, doesn't reply like that. I mean, here's a guy, he's dying, he's very close to death because of his liver issue, and here's someone healthy offering a way out. I said, ‘Steve, I'm perfectly healthy, I've been checked out. Here's the medical report. I can do this and I'm not putting myself at risk, I'll be fine.’

And he doesn't think about it. It was not, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ It was not, ‘I'll think about it.’ It was not, ‘Oh, the condition I'm in . . . ’ It was, ‘No, I'm not doing that!’ He kind of popped up in bed and said that. And this was during a time when things were just terrible. Steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years I knew him, and this was one of them.”

Jobs also considered purchasing Yahoo! at some point

While this was by far the most interesting tidbit, the leakage also reveals that at some point, Steve Jobs and Disney CEO Bob Igner got together to discuss buying Yahoo!.

The book also tackles the subject of the Apple TV. According to the authors of the book, Jobs was heard saying to the company’s design chief Jony Ive that he didn’t like TVs and that he didn’t see Apple making TVs again (he was probably referring to the Macintosh TV affair, an attempt to combine computer and TV technology).

Anyway, if we piqued your interest with this story and you want to find out more, you should know that “Becoming Steve Jobs” is currently up for pre-order on Amazon and the iTunes iBookstore.
