14 DAY TRIAL // The rumor mill made a big fuss about sapphire displays before the iPhone 6 / iPhone 6 Plus event, so everybody was expecting to see Apple introduce a pair of handsets boasting this type of noble screens.
That didn't happen to be the case, but there are hopes the iPhone 7 will manage to bring about the indestructible shielding. Although there have been a lot of nasty details surfacing about the Apple-GTAT sapphire display deal.
So while Apple is probably looking somewhere else to put its sapphire hopes, a number of smartphone manufacturers have already jumped on the sapphire bandwagon.
Desay beats Apple at the sapphire display smartphone race
The one we will go on to talk in a few is of a distinct flavor. First of all, it comes from China-based company Desay.
If this name rings a bell, you’re not imaging things. Desay is actually behind the batteries that eventually end up powering Apple’s tablets, smartphones or laptops (it’s unknown what exact products the power sources go into).
Desay has also taken up making handsets. And if the Apple iPhone doesn't have a sapphire display, guess what, Desay’s new Magical Mirror X5 does bring one into the equation. And for a budget price too (as seen at WSJ).
The Magical Mirror X5 will be sold with a quad-core MediaTek CPU under the hood, although we’re not told anything about display size or resolution. Desay calls it the “indestructible phone” and for good reason.
The device also dons a 13MP / 5MP camera combo, but we’re yet to find out information related to RAM and internal storage.
The report also mentions the Mirror X5 will be sold in China for $160 / €135, but be warned, there will be limited quantities selling, so it will be quite difficult to get your hands on such a device even if you lived in the country.
