An application that requires iOS 3.2 or later has appeared on the iTunes App Store enabling owners of an Apple iPad to download and install it on their tablets to watch Xvid content. The move is surprising, with Apple standing by the MPEG-4 and H.264 formats while pushing other standards aside.

It is not uncommon for Apple to mistakenly approve a title that doesn’t fall in line with the rules imposed by its application review board, and then quickly pull the software. Whether or not this is happening to CineXPlayer remains to be seen. Those who wish to employ the app should hurry up and download it while it’s still available. Developed by NXP Software B.V., CineXPlayer is touted as the best way to enjoy your Xvid movies, and is described as follows, over at the Apple App Store:

"Watch your Xvid movies on your iPad!

You love to watch your movies anywhere, anytime and take them with you on your iPad. But you realized that some of the most popular movie file formats (such as Xvid) won’t synch or play on your iPad?

CineXPlayer is the solution for you! -Transfer your Xvid movies to your device instantly (no conversion needed) -Play your movies anywhere, anytime - even when you have no Internet connection (in a train, a car, a plane…) -Enjoy the full quality and cinema experience - Full Resume Function - Swipe to Delete (to manage movies)"

According to NXP Software, CineXPlayer is capable of playing Xvid movies on most popular formats. The company acknowledges that users may occasionally come across an Xvid movie they will not be able to play. In case this happens, customers are to call up NXP Software B.V. support. The company notes that mkv and AC3 formats are not supported at the moment. A future update to the app may enable compatibility with the two missing formats, and perhaps others.
