It looks like Apple's transition to Intel is finally complete, at least from the public's point of view.

While Apple still has its pro line of desktops to transition over to Intel, and from a computer model point of view the transition is still underway, reports that the Power Mac G5 replacement will have a new case signal that, from the public's perspective, the transition is complete.

When Apple's first Intel based offerings came out, many people were surprised. Firstly, a new model of the iMac had just come out a few months before. Secondly, the Intel based iMac was identical in look to the previous model, and the MacBook Pro very, very similar. It became clear that Apple was keeping the same look so that people would still look at the machines and see them as Macs, and realize that despite a major change in processor architecture, these were still Macs like all Macs before them.

With the new MacBooks having a very distinct look and feel to them, and the report of the G5 replacements having a different case, it looks like Apple feels that the public has made the transition and that they can now start improving the designs again. "While specifics were not disclosed, the new computer's case is said to be substantially different enough to make the distinction between the new Intel Core 2 Duo-powered system and its PowerPC predecessor easy to spot," Ryan Katz reports for Think Secret.

As usual, details are sketchy; both regarding the insides and outsides of the case, but the consensus is that the new models will be unveiled at WWDC alongside the Leopard sneak peaks.
