Softpedia reported earlier today on Apple’s Aperture 3.0.2 update, the second maintenance release for the comapany’s professional photography application. Without going through the entire set of changes listed by Apple, our website informed its readers that Aperture 3.0.2 improved the overall stability of the program, while fixing issues in a number of areas. As it turns out, there’s more to Aperture 3.0.2 than meets the eye.

In addition to highlighting the key changes in Aperture 3.0.2 on the Downloads area of its website, Apple posted the full release notes for the Aperture update in a technote on the Support section of Apple.com. The document lists numerous changes with iPhoto Library Import, Image Import, Library, Export, Adjustments, Printing, the Faces and Places features, Metadata, Audio/Video, Books, Search, Flickr publishing, Watermarking, and a bunch of general changes. At the bottom of the list, Apple mentions the iPad.

iPad Compatibility

Surprisingly, the Mac maker decided not to include this change in the summarized description of the update. Nevertheless, the move to include iPad compatibility makes perfect sense, with the device being scheduled to hit the market in less than ten days. Going by recent stats, those who plan to acquire an iPad around then are most likely owners of other Apple products, including Macs. Customers need to be in full sync when the iPad arrives, making the Aperture update a logical move on behalf of the Cupertino-based Mac maker.

In tandem with releasing the Aperture 3.0.2 update, Apple issued a new version of iMovie. Update 8.0.6 is actually related to the Mac app this news piece has focused on – it improves reliability when working with videos from Aperture. The two updates are available as free downloads for existing users of Aperture 3 and iLife ‘09.
