The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has released version 3.4.0 of SpamAssassin, the award-winning anti-spam platform. The latest version of SpamAssassin comes with native support for IPv6, support for Bayesian filtering via the Redis backend, and improved DNS Blocklist technology.

The Apache SpamAssassin program and API are already used by hundreds of thousands of organizations from all over the world.

The systems integrated into the anti-spam solution ensure that incoming emails are classified with a high degree of accuracy, decreasing the chances of a legitimate communication being cataloged as spam.

“With the release of SpamAssassin 3.4.0, the project continues battling the ever evolving techniques used by spammers with an enterprise-grade release,” noted Apache SpamAssassin Vice President Kevin A. McGrail.

“The number one feature of SpamAssassin is the proven classification scoring framework that allows system administrators to use new ideas to improve email classification, thereby making SpamAssassin timeless.”

Joseph Schaefer, senior system administrator at the Apache Software Foundation, said, “SpamAssassin is the centerpiece of our anti spam solution at the ASF. We receive roughly half a million connections a day, directed primarily at our mailing lists, and manage to remain almost entirely spam free - thanks SpamAssassin!”

Rule updates are rolled out each day. Over one million servers have received these updates in the first part of 2014.

It’s worth noting that even cPanel, the world’s most popular hosting control panel, uses Apache SpamAssassin to ensure that customers are protected against unsolicited emails.

According to Eric Ellis, director of development operations for cPanel, SpamAsssassin is “the best solution to obliterate unsolicited email on your server and stay compliant with well-known retention standards.”

SpamAsssassin 3.4.0 is released under the Apache License v.2.0
