The next USB specification will have a single type of port, but until then, smartphones and (in many cases) tablets need to make do with micro USB ones. Also, makers of external storage devices need to accommodate them.

That's why products like the Apacer StripedCandy still come out on a regular basis.

Apacer StripedCandy is a collection of micro-USB flash drive units with USB On-The-Go support.

USB OTG is that nifty technology that lets a smartphone or tablet, or basically any Android device, act as a host system to the flash drive.

It lets you browse files and launch/open them like you would on a personal computer.

Apacer has prepared 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB StirpedCandy flash drives colored red and green. Well, The company says it's really “warm orange” (to spread the warmth of friendship apparently) and “admirable green” (as it “represents embrace and listening between friends”).

The max speed of transfer is 480 Mbps (this is USB 2.0 after all). Finally, Apacer ships the things with USB 2.0 adapters, so that you may, in fact, plug them into a PC if needed. After all, you need to get music, video and document files on the AH170 “StripedCandy” somehow.
