UK-based firm Morphsuits has entered into an association with Marvel Comics in order to create and launch a series of smart skinsuits inspired by five of the most popular superheroes.

The fans of iconic figures like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Wolverine and Captain America can now dress up like their favorite heroes thanks to these new spandex costumes.

In addition to having the appearance of the aforementioned characters, the wearers also gain the amazing skills of their favorite heroes. That's possible because the skinsuits are powered by augmented reality apps developed by Zappar, a firm that had also created interactive ads.

The Marvel costumes have each an augmented reality code from Zappar and a specially engineered slot in which the wearer can insert an Android or iOS phone in order to bring the suit to life. This way, the user has the power to throw webs, release laser weapons from their hands, fire repulsors or grow killer claws.

“Imagine not just looking like Iron Man, but being able to fire repulsors from your palms and having a glowing Arc reactor at the center of your chest. […] You can have Wolverine’s Adamantium claws, Fire Spiderman’s webbing or throw Captain America’s shield,” says Gregor Lawson, Morphsuits co-founder, as cited by Daily Mail.

The new suits have been designed in collaboration with Mark Rober, the founder of Digital Dudz, a firm that was acquired by Morphsuits last year.

“Creating Marvel costumes has long been a dream of ours and they are easily the most popular requests from our fans – we’ve had over 50 thousand searches for Spider-Man alone on our website. So when the opportunity arose we wanted to make sure they were the best costumes ever produced and that’s what we have achieved,” states Lawson.

The AR-enhanced Morphsuits are already available for purchase and cost £44.95 ($75.19 / €54.86).
