The age of flats, or ballerina shoes, seemed to have faded away this fall, when chunky or open toe pumps came to take their place, in what was clearly a compromise of comfort for glamour. With all these, the popularity that the Antic Crystal Ballerina Slippers from Miu Miu have enjoyed over these past weeks over at Neiman Marcus, especially when they cost $400 a pair, proves that flats still have not said their final word.

In all fairness, these ballerina shoes could easily be described, at a first glance, as something that looks like it costs only the tenth part of its actual price. However, the high demand for them goes to show that this would only be a wrong impression to be had. Despite the $400 price tag, Neiman Marcus has been forced to limit orders coming from customers to no more than three items per purchaser every thirty days. Should we also weigh in the balance the fact that they’re currently out of stock, perhaps it’s not just the pinkiness that makes these shoes so special.

And, as a matter of fact, it isn’t. Made of pink crackled leather, these flats appeal to every woman out there who grew up dreaming of one day becoming a princess – or, at least, of wearing princess shoes – with their glitter trim applied on the toe, the heel and the upper part. The fancy cut-outs on the side make this footwear not only prettier, but all the more practical, in that it can be worn even on the summery days that are to come.

Moreover, as every woman knows, no heel means no swollen feet and no problems when walking. While flats are, by definition, everyday footwear that can be matched with both skirts and pants, it’s perhaps recommended that you choose to keep the Miu Miu pair for a more special occasion, if not for the price you have to pay for it, at least for the glittery trimmings that make it somehow “undoable” on more mundane occasions.
