Former Democrat has spent a fortune on two polls to see whether he’d stand a chance

2011 saw Democrat Anthony Weiner’s political career go down the drain, as he was forced to resign amidst a scandal that nearly cost him his reputation and his marriage. He’s now plotting a comeback on the political stage.

Nothing is official as of yet, but there are strong indications that he’s testing waters to see whether he could ever come back in the spotlight and maybe even run for Mayor of New York.

He was in the middle of the mayoral race when scandalous, lewd photos of himself started emerging online, after he sent them to various women in a bid of getting a virtual affair going.

After a couple of years out of the spotlight, perhaps he’s thinking the time is right to give politics another go.

“Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner spent $106,500 [€82,137] this month on two polls, apparently to test the possibility of staging what would be a stunning political comeback, according to campaign filings yesterday,” Fox News reports.

Apparently, the two positions mentioned in the filings are that of mayor or comptroller. So far though, camp Weiner has not said anything officially about attempts to go for either.

Still, analysts point out, you don’t just throw away that kind of money on polls if you don’t really plan on running, if said polls come back with a positive result.

“When you spend $50,000 [€38,562] on a poll, that’s the real thing. You’re getting everything you can find out from voters. This guy spent a hundred grand,” an insider is cited as saying.

Another stresses that, if this isn’t followed by a statement that Weiner will run, it means the polls were against him.

“If someone is thinking about running and doesn’t run, it shows the polls are not favorable. No one boycotts an election they think they can win,” the analyst says.
