Here’s another motivational weight loss story from showbiz: Anthony Anderson, the comedy actor who has always been on the chubby side, is now a much slimmer version of himself, after losing a lot of weight by switching to plant-based diet.

Anderson describes himself as “vegan-ish” and tells People magazine that he’s never felt better in his life, even though he never had any health problems or confidence issues when he was overweight.

If that doesn’t motivate you, we don’t know what will.

“This is what I’m supposed to look like”

“This is what I’m supposed like,” the actor tells People magazine of his first thought when he looks in the mirror in the morning. As noted above, he never had problems with being overweight and he never felt any kind of pressure to get back in shape, but still, it’s just now that he realizes his body is as it should be after the weight loss.

At his heaviest, Anderson tipped the scales at 270 lbs (122.47 kg), but even then, he was “confident,” Anderson recalls. Image-wise, his weight was never a problem, so he wasn’t pressured into changing anything about it.

Then, about 13 years ago, Anderson was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and he finally understood that something about his lifestyle and eating habits had to change.

“I started eating healthier and in moderation, but I was still sort of eating the same stuff that I'd been eating all my life,” he explains. It wasn’t enough just yet.

Wanting a healthier life should be all the motivation necessary

Anderson discovered that on his own: in 2008, he was cast in “Law & Order” and decided he wanted to lose some weight because he wanted to overhaul his lifestyle. He wanted to be healthier and this decision provided the very motivation the diabetes diagnosis couldn’t years before.

“I decided to make a drastic change,” he explains. “I got more serious about my health and appearance – not from a vanity standpoint. I just started making healthier choices.”

More recently, Anderson has gone on a plant-based diet that he’s using to shift the extra pounds and give his organism some time off. He doesn’t plan on sticking with this “vegan-ish” diet for the rest of his life, but for the time being, he’s enjoying it for its many benefits.

“One morning when I woke up I was like, ‘Okay, today's the day to start.’ And I never looked back,” Anderson explains.

He credits his family / support system for all the help they’ve been giving him with his weight loss attempts, particularly his daughter for going out to find places that cater his favorite “vegan-ish” foods at all times of day and night.

A proper support system is vital in any weight loss program that involves such drastic changes like the one he’s made, so you may want to remember that too.
