Damn, I hope iPod does stop somewhere!

I don't want to sound rude or mean, but once more I see that the iPod goes places that are rather unusual for such a piece of gear. OK, we got it, it's a very popular portable music player and it sold more than 100M units throughout the world, but it looks like people are starting to have an iPod fetish. From creating all sorts of cases and bags and other crap for the dear iPods to embedding at least one iPod-esque feature in pretty much everything and installing iPod dock on pillows and other non-musical day by day objects... it's a long road.

Well, for Alesis, one of the world's leading manufacturers of professional electronic audio gear, the "iPodization" is not a new thing. It all started with the iMultimix 8 USB mixer which sported the first iPod dock on such a piece of gear. Now it's time for Alesis to showcase the new thing: the iMultiMix 9R.

The Alesis iMultimix 9R is intended for use in recording studios and venues and large venues, comes in a rack-mounting body and uses the iPod as a music library. Aside from the strict mixer capabilities of the Alesis iMultimix 9R which sum 5 mic preamps on 7 channels, 48V phantom power, auxiliary sends and returns as pretty much any mixer has, the 9R has an embedded iPod dock... and it looks like this makes it a bit different.

Stopping the irony, the Alesis iMultimix 9R may indeed come in useful for venues which need some small mixing power and at the same time need to have some music ready at pretty much any time, waiting to be mixed in another content... and since more and more people have their music on iPods...the follow-up looks clear.

The Alesis iMultimix 9R will become available in late 2007 for a price just under $300.
