14 DAY TRIAL // DotEmu and BulkyPix are gearing up to launch Another World on the iTunes App Store as a universal app for iPhone and iPad. The adventure game is the brainchild of visionary game designer Eric Chahi and developer DotEmu.
The game is being released in its 20th Anniversary Edition, especially redesigned for iPhone and iPad, on September 22, DotEmu and BulkyPix confirmed.
“For its 20th Anniversary Edition, Another World has been redesigned to fit iOS gaming standards and young gamers' expectations,” the duo said.
Described as “an immersive adventure with unique storytelling,” the game has been ported to over a dozen platforms since its initial launch in 1991, attaining a cult status well worthy of its ‘teleportation’ onto iOS platforms.
As the story goes, players take the role of a young scientist hurtled through space and time by a nuclear experiment that got out of control.
Lester Knight Chaykin, the protagonist, “has to dodge, outwit, and overcome the host of alien monsters and deadly earthquakes that plague the alien landscape he finds himself within,” say the developers.
According to the creators, “Only a perfect blend of logic and skill will get Lester past the deadly obstacles that lie in wait.”
Another world, known in America as Out of This World, features a remastered presentation. However, both the original and the graphically-enhanced version of the game (which supports the high definition iPad format and the iPhone 4's Retina Display) can be selected via a simple toggle.
The game’s key features, according to DotEmu and BulkyPix, are:
- Switch between Original/HD graphics by using 2 fingers at any time - 2 game controls, New intuitive touch controls or classic D-pad - 3 difficulty modes, Normal (easier than original game), Difficult (Equal to original game) and Hardcore (more difficult than original game) - Sound and SFX 100% remastered - Game Center with 13 achievements to unlock - 5 languages support (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish)
