Just like Amped Wireless, TRENDnet has launched a wireless connectivity product, although its own creation is more of a “leading” product than a follower, being a dual-band router.
Which is to say, while Amped Wireless has released a receiver for wireless connections, TRENDnet has launched a wireless dual-band router.
Said router is called N600 Dual Band Wireless Router, model TEW-751DR, and benefits from its maker's attention to both performance and security.
Sure, more emphasis is put on the former, but the latter gets some attention too.
"If you're looking for a performance oriented dual band router at a reasonable price, take a closer look at TRENDnet's TEW-751DR," stated Sonny Su, technology director for TRENDnet.
The TRENDnet TEW-751DR communicates at up to 300 Mbps on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which brings the total to 600 Mbps.
It's not on the same level as other, higher-end dual-band routers, which can go all the way to over 1,000 Mbps in some cases, but then again, TRENDnet wasn't aiming for ludicrous upper thresholds.
Instead, it included a pre-encryption engine and a guest network functionality that restricts guest access to the Internet only.
Computer printers and storage drives can be hardwired to the router as well since, in addition to Wi-Fi, it possesses four Ethernet ports on the back (4 x 10/100 Mbps LAN ports).
Other security features include Parental Controls (Mac, URL, IP Filter) and a firewall (NAT, SPI).
All in all, for something that can run on half the normal energy amount (with up to 50% GREENnet technology energy savings), the TRENDnet TEW-751DR is quite capable.
The TRENDnet N600 Dual Band Wireless Router model TEW-751DR measures 45 x 118 x 164 mm (1.8 x 4.6 x 6.5 inches), weighs 244 g (8.6 oz) and has a 3-year limited warranty. Its price is unknown, unfortunately.
