The controversial Guantanamo Bay detention camp has made a lot of headlines lately, especially because of the recent hunger strike. Some Anonymous hacktivists have decided to take matters into their own hands, so they’ve launched a new campaign called Operation Guantanamo (OpGTMO).

In a video statement released on Monday, the hackers urge their supporters to join their physical and hacktivist protest between May 17 and May 19.

“It is time for the Obama administration to admit that this is a disgrace for any civilized country which upholds the rule of law. Guantanamo Bay must be closed at once, and the prisoners should be either returned to their home countries or given a fair trial in a federal court,” the hackers stated.

“Guantanamo Bay is an ongoing war crime. Anonymous will no longer tolerate this atrocity,” they added.

“We are outraged. We, the people and Anonymous, will not allow the most expensive prison on earth to be run without any respect for international laws. We stand in solidarity with the Guantanamo hunger strikers. We will shut down Guantanamo.”
