Hacktivists part of Anonymous Romania breached and defaced the public website of Miercurea Ciuc (szereda.ro), the main city of Harghita, the county where 85% of the population is represented by ethnic Hungarians.

The demands made by the Hungarian community living in Romania have raised a lot of controversy, especially after the local government approved to set up a Hungarian-speaking faculty as part of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Targu Mures.

A lot of politicians and nationalists have raised concerns about the fact that the Hungarian community is trying to obtain more and more rights, and now hackers have joined their ranks.

Members of Anonymous defaced the site and posted a protest message.

“[Expletive] all the Maghiar (Hungarian) community from Romania,” they wrote on the defaced page.

One of the hackers told us that they also planned on leaking content from the site’s database.
