The actress from “Les Miserables” was at the beach on Wednesday, January 8, enjoying her Hawaiian vacation, when she had a big scare. While she was out for a swim on a beach near Oahu, she was caught by a strong tide and dragged further out to sea and under the waves.

TMZ reports that the only thing that saved her was a nearby surfer, who heard her screams for help. As she was pulled under by a big wave, she cried for help and, luckily, a nearby surfer came to her aid.

He carried Hathaway to the shore, where her husband was eagerly waiting with a first aid kit already in hand. It's been reported that, apart from her big scare of drowning, the actress also suffered an injury to one of the feet, scrapping a toe on the reef.

Photos from the incident show her husband attending to her injured toe and sucking out the blood from the wound, after which he bandaged the toe.

Despite this unfortunate turn of events, Hathaway was later seen in great spirits, enjoying her vacation time on the beach. She didn't let the incident ruin a perfectly good day out in the sun. She was spotted smiling and even strolling the beach.

Eye witnesses said that the actress took time to pose for pictures with fans. She was wearing a bikini with a blue sarong and large sunglasses, and walked hand in hand with her husband. It looks like her near-death experience did nothing to dampen her mood and ruin her vacation.

Anne and husband Schulman were spotted on the previous day hiking together but also out on the town, enjoying a meal from a taco truck. The star of “The Devil Wears Prada” looks to be an outdoorsy type that doesn't shy away from a little adventure.

Her representative has not made any comment on the matter.
