Sergio Di Bitetto, an Italian digital artist, has tried to illustrate the attitude of society towards same gender relationships in an animated short film produced as part of his classical animation course at Vancouver Film School in Canada.

The short is titled “Plugin” and tells the story of a hypothetical mechanical city of the future in which every citizen is an integral part of the city itself and plays an important role in the proper functioning of society as a whole.

Males and females in this fully mechanized city blend and generate energy and light through their special connections. They move on some kind of parallel tracks that fit perfectly, and when they meet, a special bond creates between them making the entire system continue flowing.

However, there is one guy who seems not to match the rest of the system. He is unable to create a bond with a female, and realizes that he can only make a perfect connection with another man. As a result, the whole mechanism jams and the authorities try to stop that unusual union.

All returns to normal and becomes even more organized after the other citizens rebel and defend their special bond, showing that each connection can generate energy, which actually symbolizes love.

“It's a project that started off in my mind three years ago and that it took me one year to prepare all the parts at VHS and four months to produce it. It's a small dream, that a man who fights for love can inspire a society that does not accept differences to change and become better. It is the hope that no one in this world should no longer feel rejected, discriminated or bullied,” the artist says about his work.
